Saints Devoted to The Rosary

While St. Dominic is known for spreading the devotion of the Rosary throughout the world (as we know it in its present form), it would erroneous to solely give him the title of the “Rosary Saint.”  So many Saints have illustrated by their words and actions the beauty and depth of the Rosary.  In their own generation and environments, they encouraged the fervor for the “Divine Garland of Roses”.  In fact, it is because of the countless witnesses of the communion of Saints, that we can have confidence that the Rosary is a powerful tool of healing, conversion, and for discerning God’s Will.  There is no greater testimony than how they lived; we can trust their words and we should follow their example.  Below is but a sample of thoughts from a selection of the Saints:

Saint Padre Pio: "The Rosary is the 'weapon' for these times."

St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort:  "If you say the Rosary faithfully until death, I assure you that in spite of the gravity of your sins, you shall receive a never-fading crown of glory. Even if you are on the brink of damnation, even if you have one foot in Hell, even if you have sold your soul to the devil as sorcerers do who practice black magic, and even if you are a heretic as obstinate as a devil, sooner or later you will be converted and will amend your life and save your soul, if, and mark well what I say -- if you say the Holy Rosary devoutly every day until death for the purpose of knowing the truth and obtaining contrition and pardon of your sins."

St. Francis de Sales: "The greatest method of praying is to pray the Rosary."

St. Alphonsus Ligouri:
"Among all the devotions approved by the Church none has been favored by so many miracles as the devotion of the most Holy Rosary. "
Pope St. Pius X

"There is no surer means of calling down God's blessing upon the family than the daily recitation of the Rosary. The Rosary is the most beautiful and richest of all prayers to the Mediatrix of all grace; it is the prayer that touches most the heart of the Mother of God. Say it each day."

St. Josemaria Escriva "The holy Rosary is a powerful weapon. Use it with confidence and you'll be amazed at the results. If you say the Holy Rosary every day, with a spirit of faith and love, our Lady will make sure she leads you very far along her Son's path. Say the Holy Rosary. Blessed be that monotony of Hail Mary's which purifies the monotony of your sins! You always leave the Rosary for later, and you end up not saying it at all because you are sleepy. If there is no other time, say it in the street without letting anybody notice it. It will, moreover, help you to have presence of God."

Saint Pope Pius IX: "Give me an army saying the Rosary and I will conquer the world."

St. Louise de Marillac: “The faults of children are not always imputed to the parents, especially when they have instructed them and given good example. Our Lord, in His wonderous Providence, allows children to break the hearts of devout fathers and mothers. Thus the decisions your children have made don't make you a failure as a parent in God's eyes. You are entitled to feel sorrow, but not necessarily guilt. Do not cease praying for your children; God's grace can touch a hardened heart. Commend your children to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. When parents pray the Rosary, at the end of each decade they should hold the Rosary aloft and say to her, ’With these beads bind my children to your Immaculate Heart’, she will attend to their souls.”
